Employees may sometimes feel demotivated. Clients may sometimes feel unimportant. Customers may sometimes feel left-out.
The perfect solution to tackle such situations?
Corporate gifts, of course!
Corporate gifts are warm, nice and handy. They fit every occasion and every purpose. They can be given to employees, clients or customers – whoever you may wish. The best part about them?
They come in all shapes and sizes, so you always have lots of options to choose from. However, sometimes, some gifts can really make recipients feel awkward. At worst, offended.
This blog is a shout “down” to all those awkward, offending gift types that you should avoid in a corporate gift giving culture.
Gift items, like USB sticks and office stationary items are fine as giveaways at tradeshows and conferences, but they are too impersonal as corporate gifts. We mean, they can work, and still not really work. Ask yourself: will you really feel important or appreciated if someone is to gift you a USB stick or stapler? Well, then what’s the point of the “corporate gift”?
Overly Personal Gifts
Okay, a personal gift doesn’t mean that you gift something that’s overly personal. For example, avoid gifting a perfume, lingerie, lotion or a jewelry set. These types of gift items can give the wrong impression to the recipient.
Religiously Offensive Gifts
Giving religiously insensitive corporate gifts is a big no-no. For instance, if you’re giving a gift to someone who is known to be of Muslim faith, avoid gifts with alcohol or pork. Likewise, if someone’s religion doesn’t allow them to celebrate Christmas, don’t give them a Christmas gift.
Low Quality and Extremely Cheap Gifts
Low quality and extremely cheap gifts can make the recipient feel offended and depict a negative image of your business. However, that doesn’t mean you should choose unnecessarily expensive gifts, for they may appear as a form of bribery. We’ll advise you to go for budget corporate gifts.
We are sure there are many more types of gifts that do not go well in the corporate gift giving culture that we haven’t mention here. If you have any examples, please feel free to share; we’d be interested in hearing your thoughts.
