The idea fits in one sentence: a giant pearl shell, big enough to sit in, beautiful enough to photograph, and lit so it glows after sunset. Ideas that fit in one sentence are often the hardest to build.
This is the story of how it went from a rough shape on our workshop floor to a photo spot on a five-star hotel’s promenade.
1Shape first, details later
Big sculptural pieces start with proportion. Before anyone thinks about finish or lighting, the shell has to look right from every angle: the curve of the ribs, the depth of the bowl, how open the top half sits. On the workshop floor, that meant shaping, standing back, and shaping again, walking around it as a guest would.

2The finish is what people touch
A photo spot gets climbed on, leaned against and touched by hundreds of hands. So the surface had to be smooth enough to look like mother-of-pearl in photos, and tough enough to survive real use outdoors. That meant patient sanding, filling and refinishing until the curves caught the light the way a real shell does.
Guests never see the hours of sanding. They just see that it looks right in every photo.
3Then we switched it on
The magic happens after sunset. Colour-changing LEDs run along the edges of the shell and inside the pearl, cycling slowly through reds, purples, blues and greens. In daylight it’s an elegant sculpture; at night it becomes something people walk over to see.
Pick a colour to see the shell glow.

4Delivered, placed, photographed
Moving a large, delicate piece is a project of its own: protecting the finish, planning the route, and placing it where the backdrop does the rest. Then comes the best part of any build, watching the first guests stop, smile and take out their phones.
- Proportion first: it has to look right from every side.
- Public pieces need a finish that is both beautiful and tough.
- Lighting turns a sculpture into a night-time destination.
- Delivery and placement are part of the design.
If you could have a giant photo spot built for your brand, what would it be?
