A uniform that looks sharp at 8am and miserable by noon helps nobody. In the UAE, where summer days regularly pass 40°C, fabric isn’t a detail. It decides whether your team looks professional all day or just for the first hour.

1Cotton, polyester and the space in between

Each common fabric has a personality:

  • Cotton feels soft and breathes well, which is why people love it. But it soaks up sweat and dries slowly, so it can feel heavy and look darker in patches during hot, active work.
  • Polyester performance fabrics pull moisture away from the skin and dry quickly. They’re the go-to for active, outdoor and sports roles, and they hold colour well wash after wash.
  • Poly-cotton blends sit in the middle: more breathable feel than pure polyester, easier care and less creasing than pure cotton. A reliable all-rounder for many roles.

The right fabric is the one your team forgets they are wearing.

2Weave and weight matter as much as fibre

Two shirts made of the same fibre can feel completely different. Piqué knits, the textured weave used for classic polos, let more air through than a flat jersey. Lighter-weight fabrics feel cooler but can turn see-through in light colours, so test white and pastel shades on a real person before ordering in bulk.

3Colour is part of the cooling

Dark colours absorb more sunlight, which matters for outdoor staff. Light colours stay cooler but show stains faster, which matters in kitchens and workshops. Often the smartest choice is a mid-tone brand colour with darker trims where wear happens most.

Ask for a sample: have one or two people wear a sample through a full working day before you order for everyone. Comfort is hard to judge on a hanger.

4Fit is comfort too

Tight fits trap heat; baggy fits look careless. Offering men’s and women’s cuts, and a proper size run, makes a bigger difference to comfort than most fabric upgrades. It’s also one of the first things staff notice.

The short version
  • Cotton breathes but holds sweat; performance polyester wicks and dries fast; blends sit between.
  • Weave and weight change how cool a fabric feels.
  • Mid tones balance heat and stains.
  • Test samples for a full working day, and offer proper fits.
